Honegger - Trois chanson de la petite sirène

Trois chanson de la petite sirène

Honegger (1926)

Taken from The Little Mermaid by Andersen

Three songs of the little mermaid

Song of the sirens

In the wind and in the waves
dissolve fragile spume.
Dissolve in a sob
poor heart filled with bitterness.
Take your flight in the blue sky,
see, death is not cruel.
You will have the peace of God
come to us immortal soul.

Lullaby of the siren

Dance with us in the beautiful ocean
in the morning or the evening beneath a silver moon.
Dive with us into the transparent water,
sing to the sun in the spume and the wind.
Sea, lull us in your caressing arms.
Sea, lull us against your quivering heart.

Song of the pear

This is the story
of the pear
they pick it
among the leaves
they tap it
so so much
that it bursts
in three beats
of an attack.
One must drink
a full measure
to the pear.
One must drink
and that is all.
